What is the arm signal for a left turn

Vlada April 04 2022

There are many hand signals that we use in our daily lives without noticing. For example, you might signal someone who is walking in front of you at a store to go ahead. Or if someone asks you a question and you don't know the answer, you might shrug your shoulders and raise your palms skyward.

There are also three hand signals that drivers should know, just in case they need to use them one day while driving. None of these signals mean that the driver wants the other driver to know that they are "number one!"

If your turn signals stop working or the brake lights go out, you will need to slow down. Traffic might stop suddenly in front of you and you would need to slow down quickly. To let drivers behind you know that you are slowing, give the three-hand signals.  If you're wondering why your turn signals might have stopped working, visit https://turnsignalbulb.com/ for a fix.

The first is to put your left arm straight up in the air. Then point with your right arm to what direction you are going next and then make a gesture with your left arm where traffic is stopped so drivers know to go around.

You`re Stopping

Extend your left arm out the driver's window and point your arm down with your fingers extended and your palm facing rearward. You're telling other drivers that you are slowing down. Keep this position until you have stopped completely or until cars behind you have seen this signal and slowed down.

If You Need to Turn Left

To turn left, extend your arm and hand out the window with your palm forward. If it feels more natural to point your fingers to the left, go ahead. Just remember to retract your arm as soon as you start to make the turn. That's because your turn signal will stay on until you're completely turned.

If You Need to Turn Right

When you want to turn right, outstretch your left arm and point it up with your palm facing the sky. Keep your elbow bent until you begin turning. You should also use hand signals when riding a bicycle if there is car traffic around. Use them when on two wheels or four and let the drivers around know what you are doing.
